Parts and Chapters Synopsis[]

Part 1: Rise of the Underworld Army[]

In part 1, a new foe, Null, appears in the Underworld and revives the Underworld Army after they were defeated by Pit. The chapters mostly center on the Underworld Army's invasion of Skyworld and parts of the Overworld.

Prologue[]

After Hadesā€™s defeat, the God of Forge, Dyntos descends to the Underworld and collects the remaining pieces of the great sacred treasures. Unknowingly, someone is watching him in the shadows. Dyntos returns to his temple in Skyworld and uses these pieces to create a new version of the Three Sacred Treasures. After creating the 3 Sacred Treasures, Underworld troops ambush Dyntos. The person who led the ambush is revealed to be the same person watching him from the Underworld, Null. Before Null controls Dyntosā€™s mind, one of his creations, the Phoenix, hides the 3 Sacred Treasures in different parts of the Overworld.

Null returns to the Underworld and revives the God of the Underworld, Hades, and other gods affiliated with him. Null and offers them a deal: he will destroy humanity and overthrow the gods and goddesses in Skyworld in exchange of becoming a god. He presents them with a mind-controlled Dyntos to help them ā€œupgradeā€ the Underworld Army.

Chapter 1: The Return of the Underworld Army[]

3 months after the prologue, the Hewdraw and Underworld troops are attacking a town in the Overworld. The Goddess of Light, Palutena is shocked to learn that Hades is alive and questions how he is revived. She sends her loyal servant and captain of her army, Pit, to stop them. Pit notices that the Hewdraw is different from the last time he saw him. Aside from the appearance, the Hewdraw possesses different abilities making it harder for Pit to defeat him. It has the ability to regenerate more heads from the body after decapitation and gets more destructive. The Hewdraw is starting fires to the point where Viridi intervenes and drops a reset bomb on the Hewdraw. She sends her troops to extinguish the fire. Dark Pit also intervenes to help Pit defeat the Hewdraw. In the aftermath, Null observes them from a distance and is very impressed with Viridiā€™s troops and how much damage the reset bomb has done to the Hewdraw. He orders Dyntos to create a replica of troops and reset bombs to their advantage.

Chapter 2: The Forces of Nature Replicas[]

Multiple reset bombs are being dropped on different locations of the Overworld. Palutena and Pit are confused to why Viridi is dropping reset bombs, but Viridi immediately intervenes and tells them that she is not dropping the reset bombs and it was someone elseā€™s doing. Pit finds the source of reset bombs and learns that they are at a different location instead of Viridiā€™s temple. There are Forces of Nature troops guarding the bombs. Viridi believes that they are replicas of her troops because she did not build the reset bombs there nor send her troops to that specific location. Believing that it was Hades doing, Hades hints to them that he did not plan this and lets an old friend orchestrate this and the invasion from the previous chapter. Before disabling the bombs, Pit encounters Thanatos, who is guarding the reset bombs. Pit defeats Thanatos, but fails to disable the reset bombs when Null, who is covered in a hooded cloak, appears and releases all the reset bombs on the Overworld. 40% of the Overworld towns are affected by the reset bombs. The towns are covered in thick vines and are trapping humans living there. He vanishes before Pit can take a glance at him.

Chapter 3: Restoring the Overworld[]

The towns covered with vines are infested with Underworld troops and Force of Nature troop replicas. To clean the mess from the previous chapter, Pit was sent to clear them. There, he is reunited with mercenary Magnus, who helps Pit fight the troops and clear the vines. With all but one of the towns restored, the two head to the last town. The last town is heavily invaded and there is destruction going on near the square of the town. While clearing the troops and the vines, they found people trapped in large sticky webs. The webs lead to a large temple. As they enter, the ground of the temple collapses and they fall in the hole. Pit gains his consciousness after his impact on the ground. Magnus gets caught in a spiderā€™s web, attracting a large spider-like creature, Arachne. The place appears to be a spiderā€™s den. It turns out that Arachne took advantage of the Overworldā€™s new environment after the reset bombs and preys on people. Pit prevents the spider from eating Magnus. He defeats Arachne and frees Magnus from the web. The Overworld is restored back to normal, but Palutena is upset about the casualties. With approximately 9,200,000 humans killed by the reset bombs, Hadesā€™s Army has expanded.

Chapter 4: Medusa's Vengeance[]

Null revives Medusa much to Hadesā€™s dismay. Due to previous events, Medusa still holds her hatred against Hades. Null stops the two and assures Medusa that she is no longer Hadesā€™s puppet. Null offers her a deal: If Medusa helps invade Palutenaā€™s temple, he will let her rule her temple. He then tells her that he will make her ā€œbeautiful againā€. He reverts Medusa into her original form (the appearance before Palutena turned her into a monster) and she accepts his offer.

Null and Medusa arrive at Skyworld and Null destroys the shield that prevents invaders from entering Palutenaā€™s temple. The alarm wakes Pit up and the temple is shaking from the havoc caused by the Underworld troops. Pit is also unable to communicate with Palutena. Assuming that Palutena might be in danger, he searches for her while fighting the Underworld Troops. He also gets assistance from the centurions.

Palutena confronts Medusa and is surprised that she has changed to her original form. The two fight each other. The two fight each other and Null assists Medusa into defeating Palutena.

Pit continues his way through Palutenaā€™s palace and finds the door to where Palutena is located. It is blocked by the Great Reaper, and Pit has to fight him in order to go through. After defeating it, Pit enters and finds Palutena defeated by Medusa and Null. Pit fights them to protect Palutena, but he is no match for them. Null easily defeats Pit and throws him off of Skyworld. Palutena tries to use the Power of Flight, but Medusa turns her into stone. Medusa throws Palutena into the ocean. Pit falls into a forest and because of the impact, he is in a coma.

Chapter 5: Conquered Skyworld[]

The chapter follows the perspective of the Force of Nature. After Medusa has complete control of Palutenaā€™s temple, the Underworld Army continues to invade other temples and homes in Skyworld. One of them is Viridiā€™s Fortress. Because Viridiā€™s troops are outnumbered, she and her troops are forced to abandon their fortress. As the Underworld troops breach the Fortress, Arlon the Serene suggests Viridi to take shelter at the Lunar Sanctum, which is invisible to Skyworld.

Dark Pit tries to escape through the Fortress to find the Lightning Chariot. He avoids and fights the Underworld Troops along the way and makes it to the Lightning Chariot. He successfully escapes Viridiā€™s Fortress, but Underworld troops are after him. He encounters Pandora, who is tasked by Null to invade Viridiā€™s Fortress. Because Dark Pit defeated Pandora in previous events, she wants revenge on him. The two fight each other and Pandora uses illusions to mess with Dark Pitā€™s head. Eventually, Dark Pit defeats her and escapes the Underworld troops.

A couple of hours later, Dark Pit is in the Lunar Sanctum with Viridi, Phosphora, and Arlon. The four of them gaze from the distance. They see Skyworld completely invaded by the Underworld Army.

Null and Medusa also gaze at the invasion with a smile appear across Nullā€™s face.
